an Open Door to Families in Transition

Rainier House Once upon a time, this little house was buried in brambles on Rainier Boulevard, overflowing with toxic garbage and junk, and crumbling inside and out.
The City of Issaquah, owners of the dumpy, neglected structure, agreed to lease it to Compassion House for one dollar a year. Compassion House wanted to use the structure for transitional housing, but the $40,000 repair estimate seemed an impossible sum for a small non-profit. However, thanks to generous donations of money, materials, and labor, only about $5,000 worth of materials had to be purchased. Several months later [roll your mouse over the picture to see!], with the garbage toted off in dumpsters, the weeds torn out, and the interior completely redone, Compassion House opened Rainier House for families in need. Since then, it has served as a welcome home for several families. Because the land where the house is sitting must be used as a park or an open space, Compassion House knew they wouldn't be able to use Rainier House indefinitely. In 2006 the house was razed in order to fulfill the open space requirement. In its stead, the Monti House (a city-owned house in a similar situation) has been provided, but Compassion House was able to move this structure to their own lot where it can be used for many years.
